Our district is one of the few regional economies in Australia that is growing through innovation and diversification. A prosperous primary production sector drives a growing value-added industry and a national road and rail transport network.

Prosperous primary production sector

The Tatiara is the largest lucerne growing area in the Southern Hemisphere, and is a leader in the production of grains such as barley, oats and wheat, and stock including sheep, cattle and pigs. Extensive irrigation has facilitated the growing of small seeds, flowers, vegetables and olives, and the Padthaway is an award-winning wine region.

Sustainable value added industries

Bolstering the primary production sector is a thriving agricultural value-add industry, spanning seed cleaning, meat processing, wine making, timber, processing, and grain milling.

Busy service sector

Our position at the centre of one of Australia’s major transport corridors supports a busy service sector, featuring transport freight services and mechanical support services, machinery and vehicle dealerships.

Tatiara District Council is one of the few regional economies in Australia that is growing through innovation and diversification.
